St. Vincent's Ferrer had the honor to host the beginning of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage within the Diocese of Sacramento on May 20, culminating in a Mass celebrated by Bishop Jaime Soto. With over 400 in attendance, Bishop Soto was joined by twenty priests from our neighboring parishes, Contra Costa County, and pilgrims who have been accompanying the Blessed Sacrament.
Mass was followed by a procession of the Blessed Sacrament from the church to the Vallejo Marina, where the faithful will accompany the Blessed Sacrament via sailboat to the Benicia Marina, where our sisters and brothers from St. Dominic's will welcome our Lord.
St. Vincent Ferrer School students served as alter servers and choir members, while members from St. Vincent's different ministries adored the Blessed Sacrament in silent adoration for over twelve hours throughout the night.
Dani Ignacio, Head Sacristan, who was in attendance with his partner, Jaime, an alumnus of and teacher at St. Vincent Ferrer School, said of the celebration:
"It's an honor for all of us at St. Vincent's to celebrate the Blessed Sacrament with Bishop Soto during our Eucharistic Revival. The Mass and procession were a beautiful testament to the Holy sacrifice our Lord makes for us each moment. Today made me very proud to see St. Vincent's many ministries come together - our Knights, students, prayer groups, sacristans, music ministers, everyone - to make sure we honor our Lord."
Dani is also the father of Ayden Ignacio, a graduating student of St. Vincent's School, who also served the Bishop alongside his father. The Eucharistic Pilgrimage began in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, continues through the Diocese of Sacramento, and culminates on July 16 in Indianapolis at the National Eucharistic Congress (click on the link for more information about the national route, and see our Facebook for more photos and videos).
